Raising awareness about climate change and educating young people on the impacts of climate change, making them more informed about the issue.
The project aims to foster understanding of the social and ethical aspects of climate change on marginalised communities
Equip students with methods and skills to mitigate the effects of climate change, as well as adapt and advocating for climate-friendly policies.
The project emphasises the importance of youth leadership and encourages young people to take action and become leaders in their communities.
The project promotes collaboration and partnerships across borders, which is crucial for addressing climate change since environmental issues often transcend national boundaries.
The project aims to initiate climate-friendly practices on campuses, which can have a lasting effect on the broader community and contribute to long-term change.
The project aims to address one of the most pressing global challenges – climate change. The primary goal is to educate and mobilize the next generation of leaders, emphasizing the role of climate change as a justice issue. We intend to equip 1,250 students across 25 universities in South Asia with the knowledge and skills to mitigate climate change, enabling them to become climate change ambassadors. These ambassadors will develop and implement climate-friendly policies, practices, and programs within their universities and communities.
Through this project we intend to partner with student bodies in South Asian universities from Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. By the end of the project, we aim to work with at least 25 universities across these five countries. Every country will have program coordinator(s), climate change experts and/or partner organisations supporting us in implementing the project.
The project intends to,
– Empowered students, proficient in creating and implementing climate-friendly policies.
– Sustainable climate programs integrated into partner universities.
– Dialogue sessions fostering climate awareness.
– A minimum of three climate-friendly campaigns on each university campus.
– Community outreach programs to educate and raise awareness.
– A robust online platform designed to deliver educational content.
– Strengthened cross-border relationships among students.
– Opportunities for international climate-focused fellowships.
– Visibility and coverage in local media, further raising climate awareness.
If you are a college, university or civil society organiastion working in the following regions Pakistan (Sindh and Balochistan), India (Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana), Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka and would like to support us in this endeavour then please reach out to us at [email protected]. We would be more than happy to collaborate with you to bring the initiative to your region.
The first major milestone is to establish partnerships with student bodies in universities in the regions mentioned above and onboard students who are keen on participating in the mission to tackle climate change. Once the students are onboarded, they will undergo an online course curated by industry experts keeping the regional challenges in mind. As students complete the online courses at their end, they will form teams of 3-5 students from the same region and work on ideating climate action projects that can be implemented in their universities. The teams will get the opportunity to work closely with climate change experts to ideate their projects and apply for a fellowship. This fellowship is an opportunity for teams to pitch their ideas to the mentors and get a chance of travelling to an all expense paid trip to the U.S. to participate in workshops and engaged in dialogue on climate with our partner university.
A part of the project is to complete the online course curated to talk about the pressing climate issues being experienced in the South Asian region. The course will also equip the students to form teams of 3-5 and come up with climate action projects that they will implement in their universities and regions.
