Water Guardians
The Duckweed Water Purification Initiative aims to repurpose backwash water generated during the campus’s raw water purification process. Currently stored in two interconnected ponds, this water remains underutilized. The project will grow duckweed in the first pond, leveraging its natural purification properties to absorb contaminants like heavy metals and reduce turbidity through sedimentation. After treatment, the purified water will flow into the second pond for storage, making it suitable for reuse in plant growth and campus activities. Despite challenges in obtaining testing permissions, the team is committed to enhancing water quality and maintaining the ecosystem’s beauty around the ponds. Ultimately, this initiative promotes sustainable water management and contributes to a greener campus environment.
