Use of Zai pits in Balochistan and its Role in Combating effects of Climate Change.
The project had a transformative impact on agriculture in Balochistan, tackling water scarcity, poor soil, and socioeconomic challenges. Even with just 34 Zai pits, crop yields improved significantly. The pits captured rainwater and, with added cattle manure, enhanced soil fertility.
Most importantly, the project restored local farmers’ confidence in cultivating crops in arid regions, once thought impossible. While small-scale, it proved the concept, and the team hopes greater awareness will encourage wider adoption across Balochistan.
