Water Purification and Sanitization for Chittagong Slum Communities
The project significantly improved health outcomes for 30 families by providing essential water purification equipment and promoting good hygiene practices, resulting in a reduction of skin infections and waterborne illnesses from 80% to just 5%. Participants received hands-on training in modern purification techniques, including fitkiri, UV filtration, calcium hypochlorite, and tablets. To enhance sanitation awareness, workshops and informative posters were developed, covering topics such as proper handwashing, toilet cleaning, and waste management. The community engaged actively in cleaning campaigns, fostering a sense of accountability for maintaining cleanliness and improving their living conditions. A seminar at a local high school educated attendees of all ages about the importance of clean water and sanitation. The project’s sustainability is reinforced through ongoing collaboration with the slum leader and monthly surveys, ensuring lasting behavioral changes and a healthier community environment.
