Recycle Riches
The project has significantly reduced the amount of waste entering open spaces in targeted slum areas, leading to improved environmental conditions and diminished health risks. By utilizing five barrels to divert 125 kg of waste daily, it directly benefits approximately 125 individuals. Each barrel generates a potential monthly income of BDT 3,000 through compost sales, with the project capable of creating a total monthly income of BDT 15,000 for participating residents, providing them with an additional livelihood source. Furthermore, around 125 individuals, particularly women, have been empowered through their involvement in waste management and composting activities, fostering financial independence and boosting confidence. Ultimately, this initiative aims to establish a sustainable culture of proper waste management among slum dwellers, contributing to long-term improvements in environmental quality, public health, and overall quality of life, while also potentially influencing public policy by offering effective community-based waste management models.
