Eco-friendly Waste Management and Composting Initiative in Karachi
This project aims to reduce organic waste disposal from neighbourhood restaurants, campus canteen and interested students in by turning the waste into compost, we acomplished this by educating the community about the importance of organic waste treatment, and emphasising the role of green certification in the restaurant industry. Our project aligns with the themes of Circular Economy, Sustainable Consumption, and Climate Education and Awareness.
We collected kitchen waste from various sources and initially attempted bin composting. However, due to practical challenges, we switched to pit composting, a more effective method. By composting 15 kg of food waste, we successfully reduced 3.75 kg of carbon dioxide emissions and contributed to a healthier environment.
