P For Prakriti

“P for Prakriti” is a female-led initiative by Young Social Workers at Padmakanya Multiple Campus, which has over 8,000 female students. The project educates students about the climate stories of indigenous people near Chitwan National Park, focusing on their Right to Education and gender disparities. It promotes responsible environmental practices through paper waste management by collaborating with DOKO, a recycling organization. However, the college administration prefers to burn or discard paper waste for convenience, hindering recycling efforts. The team continues to seek coordination with the administration to establish a recycling culture on campus.

The initiative emphasizes that “climate change is not only about the environment but also about people and their livelihoods.” As social work students, the team studied indigenous communities like Bote, Chepang, Mushar, and Tharu around Chitwan National Park, where climate change threatens their livelihoods. They presented their findings to Ward Chairperson Ms. Kiran Mahato, which led to the “P for Prakriti” project. This project transformed their experiences into knowledge products and conducted climate literacy sessions for 150 undergraduate students from various faculties. Despite the college administration denying their recycling initiative, the team remains committed to eco-social work.
