Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in Haputhale

The project titled “Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in the Haputale Area of Sri Lanka” addresses the adverse effects of climate change experienced in the region. Its objectives include investigating scientific evidence for the causes of climate change in Haputale, conducting awareness programs about climate change and its impacts on the local community, encouraging farmers to adopt climate-resilient agricultural practices, and improving disaster preparedness. A significant challenge faced during implementation was the limited timeframe, as the project coincided with university exams. Additionally, mobilizing farmers for the tree-planting program proved difficult due to their daily work commitments. Despite these challenges, the project successfully increased community awareness about climate change, fostered collaboration within the community to mitigate its effects, and enhanced cooperation between local authorities and community members on environmental issues. Ultimately, these efforts contribute to building resilience against climate change in the Haputale area.

We were able to create impact from our project to mitigate and adapt to impact of climate change in Haputale area .we used seminar program for school children to motivate awareness about climate change.we were able to give education to the student who are studying at Muttettuwegama college about climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies .we gave books for the library of Muttettuwegama college which are related to weather, climate and natural resources .these books support to student to get more knowledge about the climate change. We have promoted the importance of planting trees from conducting tree planting program with farmers association of puwakgahawela.we conducted this program with the balangoda site forest office. on that day we awared the farmers about sustainable agricultural practices ti mitigate and adapt impacts of climate change .then we were able to enhance collaboration between local authorities and community members on environmental issues .we encouraged collaboration in community to mitigate and adapt to impacts of climate change.we have awared people who are living in other areas about what is climate change , how Haputale area is being affected by climate change and what are the actions we have taken to mitigate and adapt to impact of climate change in Haputhle area.
